I have a Diploma in Cartooning and have studied a Diploma in Creative Art. I was regularly
published in a weekly cartoon in The Lion newspaper in Cyprus and started Karla's Creative Capers
by being commissioned to draw personalised cartoon histories for special occasions such
as birthdays, retirements, anniversaries, and weddings.
These cartoons developed into caricatures when I found that I had a talent for capturing expressions and the
lifestyle of people from photographs. This enables my customers to buy a unique personalised gift just by
sending me a photo and a description of the person and their hobbies and job.
I have a great love of animals and birds; especially elephants and I hope this is portrayed through my
watercolours and mosaics.
My talent and patience is displayed through the mosaic work, which involves cutting pieces
of coloured paper and arranging them with my own unique style. You can see examples of these in the Elephant, Parrot
and Santa mosaic prints.
My love for pets shines through in my pet portraits. I really enjoy creating these from photographs of people's pets
and get as much delight as my customers get when they see their loved pet immortalised on canvas.
I live near the coast and often go for a walk along the beach and harbour and when I see certain stones and rocks
I can visualise how they would appear if painted. From these stones I create animals like penguins, guinea pigs and
cats. Some make great floral artwork and others I turn into dinosaurs and fun monsters for children.
When it's too cold to go the beach I like to make fridge magnets such as Highland cows and sheep which are popular
with local farmers.
